At the 2004 American Association of Museums annual meeting, I chaired a session called, “It’s Not Just for Kids: The Value of Play in Exhibitions for All Audiences.” The session was a great success and included a lively half hour of discussion. The audio recording was one of the most popular.

My review of the exhibition Art Inside Out at the Children’s Museum of Manhattan was published in the October 2002 issue of Curator magazine (released in the spring of 2003). Art Inside Out was “a joyful exhibit that takes an affectionate look at the work of three New York artists, while inviting visitors ‘inside’ the art-making process.” If you’d like a reprint of the review, please contact me.

I taught a workshop on writing visitor-friendly exhibition labels at the annual meeting of the Mid-Atlantic Association of Museums on October 31, 2005. Previous workshops for the Small Museums Association and the Fairfax County Park Authority were well-received. One participant wrote, “Thank you VERY much for giving such good, clear, concise and concrete advice—sounds like a description of a good label.”

In 2004, I completed work with Amaze Design on a National Park Service project, Alabama’s Tent City Interpretive Center, part of the Selma to Montgomery National Historic Trail. I did the writing for the center’s 3,500-square-foot exhibition, which commemorates the 1965 Selma-to-Montgomery Voting Rights March.
